What Ombre was around year 2013-14 is what Balayage has been for 2015-16, a major hair trend (well yeah that makes Ombre a passé, strictly speaking in terms of trends, but of course you can have what you like!)
I had been wanting to get a Balayage for my hair for the longest time and finally got it done for the first time last year. I totally loved the final result and so i decided to get it done again now....But before I go into further details about my colour treatment, let me quickly tell you a bit about Balayage.
Balayage in French means to sweep or to paint. This hair colour technique gives a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour, with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. The idea is to give natural softer look! Balayage is applied on the surface and not saturated through the section until the very tips, something very unlike regular highlights which aren’t soft at all. The trend is pretty hot an done by many A-listers be it Bollywood or Hollywood!
Further, it’s totally bespoke to you! A good Balayage expert will be able to place the colour that compliments your skin tone and brings out the best features of your face (hence the glow you guys notice on my face for last few days). Please see, what colour shade may work for me may not work for you that well! The trick is to find ‘your’ shade
As far as I am concerned, I didn’t just get a Balayage, but I got a global hair colour, or rather colours too (mine was a mix of two). So basically I got a global hair colour first, and then Balayage over it.
My hairstylist Zartasha, at Ruby Glow Salon helped me pick the perfect shades to bring out the best of my face and skin tone.
She used Kuene and Matrix products, Caramel base was applied for my global hair colour. After applying these for global, she used light blonde caramel mix shade for Balayage.
I normally use Loreal Colour Protect Shampoo and avoid oiling my hair for 1to 3 weeks as suggested by my hair stylist. You shouldn't expose your hair to the sun to make the colour last longer and keep the natural hair texture intact. The overall process took some 3-4 hours.
Maintaining a Balayage is not big deal, just take care of your hair as you do. The only thing you’d probably need is a good shampoo and conditioner/mask for coloured hair.
It’s been quite a while i got my hair colour done last time and got it upgraded last weekend and I am very happy with the results, plus all those compliments I get!
